Code of Conduct for Aster’s Senior Centers

Updated December 2025

Aster’s Mesa Downtown and Red Mountain Senior Centers are important community hubs for older adults to come together to have fun, socialize, access resources, and enjoy lunch and a wide range of activities. Aster strives to promote a welcoming culture of safety and belonging for participants, volunteers, staff, and guests. To ensure this, we ask that all who come to our centers be respectful to each other and take responsibility for their own actions. If you observe any safety concerns or violations of this Code of Conduct, please inform Senior Center staff or the Aster Administration Office right away so that the issue can be resolved.

• Be considerate and treat each other with kindness, courtesy, and dignity. Respect individual and cultural differences.

• The center cannot permit individual disruptive or threatening actions that interfere with the enjoyment or participation of others. Refrain from using abusive, discriminating, insulting, or sexually suggestive language, comments, or slurs. Physical or verbal harassment, bullying, intimidation, and acts of retaliation will not be tolerated.

• Respect the personal belongings of others and the center’s facilities and property.

• Appropriate personal hygiene and attire are expected. Center participants are expected to be able to provide and administer independent self-care. Aster can help those who need further assistance through other services and community resources.

• As a nonprofit organization, the circulation of political petitions at an Aster senior center is prohibited. Solicitation, selling items or products for personal gain, or fundraising for other organizations in the center are also not permitted.

• ADA approved service animals are permitted in the center. Owners must be responsible for their animal and keep it close and under control. No other animals are permitted.

• The use or being under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs while at the center is prohibited. Smoking is not permitted in the center. The violation of any federal, state, county, or city laws or ordinances is not allowed.

Individuals who choose not to follow basic conduct guidelines may be asked to leave the center by an Aster staff member. If the individual does not leave voluntarily, staff have the authority to call the police to assist.

Depending on the nature and severity of the offense, staff may place a participant on a temporary break or suspension from the center for a stated time period. If the misconduct continues upon the participant’s return, they are at risk of being unable to rejoin the center.

Participants may choose to use the appeal procedures that is detailed in Aster’s Problem-Solving Process.
