Aster Aging’s Response to Coronavirus / COVID-19
April 21, 2020
As state and city stay-at-home orders continue, Aster Aging is adapting to ensure our services are meeting the basic needs of older adults in our communities. The seniors we serve are among our community’s most vulnerable members. Keeping them safe, as well as our staff and volunteers, is our top priority during this uncertain period.
We are closely following updates from the CDC and local public health authorities for the latest guidance on how to proceed: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html
In accordance, we have made the following updates to our general programs:
- Senior Centers
Aster is temporarily transitioning from weekday congregate lunches served at our Senior Centers to packaged “Pick-Up & Go Meals”. Individuals can pick up meals daily and/or up to a full week (seven days total) of frozen meals. Reservations are required to be made by 2:00 PM the day prior to pick up. Participation is limited to community members age 60 and up and a suggested contribution is requested of $3.50 per meal. For more information, call the nearest Aster Senior Center: Mesa Downtown (247 N Macdonald, Mesa – 480-962-5612) or Red Mountain (7550 E Adobe, Mesa – 480-218-2221). Our Senior Center group activities are temporarily on hold, in keeping with CDC guidance.
- Meals on Wheels
Our program continues to offer hot, nutritious weekday meals for isolated homebound older and disabled adults, coupled with wellness checks. Participation is limited to eligible older and disabled adults who have challenges with activities of daily living. Subsidized and fee-for-service options are available, as are weekend frozen meals. For more information or to sign up, call our Outreach / Social Services team at 480-964-9014.
- In-Home Support
Assistance continues to be available for homebound older and disabled adults. Volunteers in the Neighbors Program provide companionship, including friendly phone calls or visits, and essential transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping, or pharmacies. Home Care provides housekeeping, personal care, and respite through certified aides. For more information, call 480-964-9014.
- Outreach / Social Services
Our staff are available to help you navigate and access needed social services, food, benefits, and health resources during these uncertain times. Call 480-964-9014.
At all times, Aster remains grounded in our mission: to empower and support East Valley older adults and their families to remain independent and engaged in our communities. Please call if we can be of assistance to you or a loved one.
