MAYOR GILES VISITS RED MOUNTAIN CENTER
Proclamation Transcript:
Whereas, since March 1972, the Nation Senior Nutrition Program has funded local agencies and organizations to serve home-delivered and congregate meals that help to ensure older adults have opportunities to stay healthy, independent, and connected; and whereas, more than 10 million older Americans face hunger each year including 6.5% of older adults in the Phoenix - Mesa Metropolitan Area; and whereas, local senior nutrition programs help older adults access healthy foods; nutrition screening, education, and counseling; social opportunities; and other supports that encourage well-being; and whereas, Aster Aging is having a positive impact on our community and its senior members by:
-Preparing and delivering more than 120,000 Meals on Wheels to 1,083 local clients in fiscal year 2023,
-Providing over 17,000 congregate meals and 2,700 group activities for 2,424 participants at the Mesa Downtown and Red Mountain Senior Centers
-Assisting 2,613 local seniors through social services, resource navigation, and benefits enrollments, and
-Engaging the support of hundreds of community members as volunteers and donors to improve the lives of our seniors.
Now, therefore, I, John Giles, by the virtue of the authority vested in me as the Mayor of Mesa, Arizona, do hereby proclaim March 2024 as the:
52nd Anniversary of the Senior Nutrition Program
In witness thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Mesa, Arizona to be affixed this 29th day of February 2024.
