Now Showing: October Movies at Aster's Senior Centers
There's nothing like a matinee with a bucket of popcorn and a room full of familiar faces, and this October, Aster's Senior Centers have free weekly movie showings with a lineup built for the season — think haunted mansions, wisecracking witches, and one very good dog.
Movies are completely free and start at 12:30 pm, with popcorn provided at every showing. Red Mountain Senior Center's movie day is moving from its usual Tuesday slot to Mondays. If you're used to catching a film there, mark your calendar for the new day.
Seating is limited, so an RSVP — online, by phone, by email, or in person.
Mesa Downtown Senior Center (Thursdays)
October 1 — Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024, PG-13)
The Spengler family teams up with the original Ghostbusters to battle a new supernatural threat that puts New York City in an icy grip. It's a passing of the proton pack between generations, blending nostalgia for longtime fans with a story built for a new one.
October 8 — Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024, PG-13)
Decades after the original, Lydia Deetz's teenage daughter accidentally opens the portal to the afterlife in this long-awaited sequel. Michael Keaton returns to the role that made him a household name, bringing the same chaotic, mischievous energy that made the original a Halloween staple.
October 15 — Gremlins (1984, PG)
A father breaks all three rules of caring for his son's new pet — no bright light, no water, and never feed it after midnight — spawning a horde of mischievous, destructive creatures in this iconic '80s classic. Equal parts comedy and creature feature, Gremlins remains one of the most beloved films of the decade.
October 22 — The Addams Family (1991, PG-13)
The eccentric, endearingly macabre family welcomes a man claiming to be Gomez's long-lost brother Fester — unaware he's an impostor after their fortune. Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston lead a pitch-perfect cast in this big-screen take on the classic Charles Addams characters, full of dry wit and gothic charm.
October 29 — Good Boy (2025, PG-13)
A loyal dog named Indy moves with his owner Todd into a rural family home, only to discover that supernatural forces are lurking in the shadows — and it's up to Indy to protect the person he loves most. Told almost entirely from the dog's point of view, this inventive horror film puts a fresh, heartfelt spin on the haunted-house story in time for Halloween.

October 12 — Top Gun: Maverick (2022, PG-13)
When Navy Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell is sent to train a new squad of graduates for a dangerous, near-impossible mission, he's forced to confront his own past while pushing himself to the limit. A worthy, action-packed follow-up to the 1986 original, with Tom Cruise back in the cockpit.
October 19 — Knives Out (2019, PG-13)
When a wealthy crime novelist is found dead at his family estate the day after his 85th birthday, a brilliant and unconventional detective is brought in to untangle a web of lies, secrets, and squabbling relatives. Sharp, funny, and full of twists, this modern whodunit pays loving tribute to classic mystery films while keeping audiences guessing until the very end.
October 26 — Hocus Pocus (1993, PG)
On Halloween night in Salem, Massachusetts, three centuries-old witches are accidentally resurrected by a group of curious teenagers, who must find a way to stop them before sunrise — or the witches will become immortal. With Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as the unforgettable Sanderson sisters, this cult favorite has become a Halloween tradition for generations of moviegoers.
