Aster Neighbors Program

Staying active and independent at home is something most older adults deeply value — but sometimes, a little help makes all the difference. That's where Aster's Neighbors Program comes in.

The Neighbors Program connects older adults with volunteers who provide practical support and genuine human connection, helping participants remain in their own homes comfortably and confidently. Whether it's a ride to a medical appointment or a friendly visit over a cup of coffee, the program is built around the kinds of everyday needs that, when unmet, can quietly erode a person's quality of life.

What the Program Offers

Neighbors provides a range of services tailored to where older adults need support most:

  • Essential Transportation. Rides to the doctor, pharmacy, and grocery store — so that getting where you need to go doesn't become a barrier.
  • Companionship Visits. Friendly in-person visits with good conversation, whether over puzzles, games, or coffee.
  • Telephone Support. Regular calls from a kind volunteer, checking in and sharing stories — a simple but meaningful connection.
  • Pet Food. Supplemental pet food and supplies for older adults' pets, because the bond between a person and their animal matters.
  • Visual Assistance. Support with home tasks for individuals with low vision or blindness.

Who the Program Is For

If you or a loved one could benefit from any of these services, we encourage you to reach out. The Neighbors Program is designed to meet people where they are — no need to be in crisis to ask for support. Sometimes a little help, offered consistently, is what makes staying home feel sustainable.

Volunteers Make It Possible

The Neighbors Program runs on the generosity of community volunteers. If you're looking for a meaningful way to give your time, this is an opportunity to make a real and lasting difference in someone's daily life. Volunteers are always needed to keep the program going and growing.
