Make a Difference Through Volunteerism

Volunteer and Make a Real Difference in the Lives of Older Adults

Every day, older adults in our community rely on small moments of connection and practical support to stay healthy, independent, and engaged. Volunteers make those moments possible. Whether it is a friendly conversation, a shared meal, or a simple ride to the grocery store, volunteering with Aster creates meaningful impact, both for seniors and for the people who serve them.

We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities designed to fit different interests, skills, and schedules. Individuals and groups are welcome, and no single role defines what it means to make a difference.

Support Our Senior Centers
Volunteers help keep our senior centers welcoming and vibrant places. You might greet participants at the front desk, assist in the café, support activities or lunch service, help with administrative tasks, teach a class, or share a hobby or special talent. These everyday interactions help create a sense of belonging for the older adults who walk through our doors.

Offer Companionship Through Friendly Visits
Loneliness can be one of the greatest challenges facing older adults. Friendly Visits volunteers provide companionship through in-person visits or regular phone calls, offering conversation, connection, and reassurance to seniors who may otherwise feel isolated.

Provide Essential Transportation
A ride can mean the difference between missed care and independence. Transportation volunteers help seniors get to medical appointments, the grocery store, and the pharmacy, supporting their ability to live safely and independently.

Deliver Meals and Smiles
Meals on Wheels volunteers spend a weekday morning delivering nutritious meals to seniors in the community. More than food, these deliveries provide a brief but meaningful check-in and a familiar friendly face. Volunteer drivers receive the federal mileage reimbursement rate for miles driven.

Volunteer as a Group
Groups can make a powerful impact together. Opportunities include organizing donation drives, packing gift baskets, assisting with holiday celebrations, or sharing music and performances. Holiday-specific opportunities are also available through our Holiday Helpers program.

Support Seniors and Their Pets
For many older adults, pets are essential companions. Volunteers can help by packing pet food at Aster’s Senior Center, delivering food directly to seniors, or hosting a pet food drive in their community.

Send a Handwritten Message of Care
Handwritten cards remind seniors that they are seen and valued. Volunteers can write birthday cards, holiday greetings, or simple notes of encouragement. Cards may be dropped off at the Senior Center or at Aster’s administrative offices.

Create Placemats That Brighten the Day
Handmade placemats bring warmth and color to daily lunches. School groups are encouraged to participate by creating positive, uplifting designs that can be used year-round or seasonally.

Please note that Aster is unable to accept court-appointed community service hours.
