Understanding Benefits and Support Resources for Older Adults

Aging is a part of life that brings change, and with it, new needs and considerations. While many older adults navigate this stage independently, it’s not always widely known that there are public programs and community resources available to help manage the financial and practical aspects of daily living.

For those on a fixed income, the rising cost of basic needs—such as food, utilities, and healthcare—can pose ongoing challenges. Assistance programs exist to ease some of this burden, yet they’re often underutilized simply because people don’t know they qualify.

Available Support Through Aster Aging

Aster Aging participates in the National Council on Aging’s network of Benefits Enrollment Centers (BECs). Through this partnership, Aster helps older adults and individuals with disabilities on Medicare explore and apply for a range of assistance programs.

The services provided are focused on connecting individuals with support they may already be eligible for, including:

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) – helps with grocery expenses
  • Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) – helps with heating and cooling bills
  • Additional programs that may offset medical or living costs

These resources are offered free of charge to residents of Arizona’s East Valley. Support is available to help identify what programs might apply to a person’s specific situation and to assist with the application process.

Confidential and No-Cost Support

There is no cost to use Aster's Benefits Enrollment Center. The service is available to adults aged 60 and older who would like help understanding or accessing benefit programs—we are here for those who need it.
